Summer Recap

The women of Alpha Rho have had a busy summer!  Between internships and traveling, the Alpha Rho women took their excellence from the classroom to their hometowns and across the United States this summer.

Academic accomplishment is important to the members of Alpha Rho and that was no different this summer.  Many students took classes and even traveled abroad to earn credit towards their respected degrees.  Some of the Alpha Rho members were lucky enough to travel with fellow sisters!  Thetas were spread out throughout the world in places such as Costa Rica, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, Ireland, and Switzerland.

Internships were another big area of focus for the women of Alpha Rho this summer.  Alpha Rho members had internships at the National Defense University in our nation’s capitol, First PREMIERE Bank, YouthWorks (a Christ centered mission trips in Harrisburg, PA), the Department of Social Services in our state’s capitol, Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, and South Dakota Public Broadcasting in Vermillion.  These are just some of amazing internships our members had this summer!

The Alpha Rho chapter was also lucky enough to send two representatives to the Kappa Alpha Theta Emerging Leaders Conference in Chicago!  Leah Gleason and Annie Kuznik were both selected for this honor. These ladies had to opportunity to learn about Kappa Alpha Theta as well as meet sisters from across the country and Canada!

Other Alpha Rho members were lucky enough to experience new adventures with organizations on campus including Dance Marathon and AWOL (Alternative Week of Off-Campus Learning).  Women traveled together for a relaxing trip while enjoying their sisters company.  Some even had the opportunity to travel to other Theta chapters around the nation.  Many women also worked on their preceptorship in order to fulfill their scholarship requirements.

The women of Alpha Rho have had a busy summer, but it’s time to move back to our home on East Clark Street! Being able to reunite with sisters is always worth seeing the summer end!

Sisterhood Event

The women of Alpha Rho spent their Saturday afternoon at a sisterhood event hosted at the chapter facility. The chapter's newest uninitiated members were also in attendance, and this was a great opportunity to get to know all of them.

The members created Valentine's Day cards for the residents at the nursing home.

Human Resources Director, Rayna Pearson, ordered plain shirts for each member, and the women then embroidered on the "KAO" letters on a pocket

Rayna & Kate with their finished products!

Rayna & Kate were also so kind to sew the embroidered pockets onto each woman's shirt.

Additionally, each member was given a piece of a puzzle and was asked to write on it what Theta meant to them. Then, the pieces were put together which completed a big "KAO." The puzzle proved that together, we, as the members, make Theta what it is. However, if one member is missing, just as if one piece of the puzzle was missing, the chapter, or KAO, is not the same anymore.

Founder's Day

Members kiting Tory Freese
On Sunday afternoon, January 27, active members and Alpha Rho alumni gathered for tea and coffee to celebrate Founder's Day. The day was especially exciting since our newest members had just been initiated the night before. Alpha Rho was also very fortunate to share the day with Tory Freese, the Manager of Development for the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation, who spoke about the Foundation and the Friendship Fund.
